Oscar L.Clark, (1873-1932), Northampton
Born in Compton, Canada. Moved to Northampton in 1888. Employed by AndrewHyde. Opened his own shop after Hyde's death in 1905 (address). Competed strongly with Milton Wickes, business partner of Hyde who had also worked alongside Oscar. Left the violin business in 1915 to become a chauffeur, and later worked as acabinet maker. Never went back to violin making. Hisviolins show the clear influence of Hyde in all details of his model. Varnish usuallybrown to orange brown. Printed labels of two varieties. Early label has a eagle in thebackground.
