Frank C.Ball, (1881-1948), Springfield

Emigrated from Abbotsford, Quebec where he studiedviolin making under John Branford. Worked for Boston violin makers Walter Solon Goss, andO.H. Bryant before moving to Springfield. Began working as a die maker for Smith andWesson in 1918. Made Violins during teens through the late 40's in the upstairs workshopof his house (He called it his “sanctum sanctorium.”)  Guarneri and Alard Strad models. Hand writtenlabel. Made approximately 125 violins. Exceptional workmanship which bears a strongrelationship to violins made by OH Bryant.
